Veterans and mental health

Certain mental health conditions are more common among veterans. According to a 2008 Veteran Affairs research, one in three veterans told their primary care doctors they experienced some depressive symptoms. One in five people said they had serious depressive symptoms. For those whose depression is not improving with medication, there are alternatives. One FDA-approved treatment that has been shown to be useful in reducing depressive symptoms is transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). According to recent research, it might also be useful in treating tinnitus and PTSD, among other conditions. Many veterans may be more vulnerable to these problems as a result of their experiences while serving in the armed forces. TMS has been shown to be beneficial in mitigating the unpleasant symptoms associated with depression, anxiety, OCD, and certain types of PTSD.
